My Thoughts

Some people shy away at the bookstore and try and hide the fact that they’re buying a book about how to live a more fulfilling life or reignite passion into your marriage. I always enjoy picking up a self-help book that inspires confidence and self-growth which is why I was drawn to Sincero’s book.

Sincero is a bright and enthusiastic person and it shows in her writing. The humor was fun and would pop up at the right times. When she writes about a moment in her life that was sad or depressing, she uses her humor to lighten things up a bit. In my opinion, that is exactly what self-help books need. You’re supposed to be feeling better about yourself, right?

“If you’re serious about changing your life, you’ll find a way. If you’re not, you’ll find an excuse.” – Jen Sincero

Where my two butterfly rating comes in is because I felt like it was the same ‘ol same ‘ol type of advice. The “just do it” type of advice that I feel has been drilled into so many books these days even if you are reading fiction. Some of the advice seems more for someone in high school or right out of college who needs help finding themselves.

She brings up the idea of money being the reason behind why many people hesitate to start a business, travel the world, or invest in a possession that will make them happy. One example she gives is how when she needed a new car. She thought she would buy a Honda versus an Audi, the car she really wanted. She goes for the more expensive car even though she was barely getting by on her monthly income. That’s not something I would do in that situation no matter how badly I wanted a new car (in my case a Tesla).

Sincero has another book out, You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth which could be an interesting read. But based on the thoughts and advice she has in this book, I don’t think it would be the right read for me.
